Section 8 Rental Assistance Waiting List Will be CLOSING JUNE 30. 2025 5:00 PM

The waiting list for Section 8 rental assistance will be CLOSING as of June 30, 2025 at 5:00 PM.  NO applications will be accepted after this time, by mail, fax, email or drop off.  Now is the time to apply as the wait list is now over a two year wait at this point.

Applications can be obtained the following ways:

  • Picked up at our office at 1211 8th St, Baraboo, WI during normal business hours or after hours.  Applications are located outside our main office door.
  • By calling to have one emailed or mailed to you
  • Printed off from the website.

You can mail completed applications back the following ways:

  • PO Box 147, Baraboo, WI or by dropping them off at the office either during hours or in the drop box outside the office.
  • You can also email them back to jessicas@saukcountyha.org
  • By fax 608-356-4492.  If you are faxing, please call to confirm fax was received.

ALL Applications must be received in our office by 5:00 PM on June 30th.  If we receive applications after this date/time you will NOT be placed on the wait list.

 

Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) Award

The Sauk County Housing Authority has been awarded 15 Emergency Housing Choice Vouchers (EHV) by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The EHVs target individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, survivors of domestic or sexual violence and victims of human trafficking. SCHA has partnered with the Balance of State Continuum of Care and County Continuum of Care to accept referrals from qualifying households. ALL referrals for the EHV program MUST come from the Continuum of Care (CoC); families that believe they may be eligible for Emergency Housing Voucher assistance should contact the CoC for Sauk County.

MAINSTREAM VOUCHER PROGRAM

The Sauk County Housing Authority has been awarded 25 more Mainstream vouchers effective April 1, 2021. The total MS5 vouchers will be 46 vouchers which we are in the process of pulling from our waitlist for. To be eligible for the MS5 program you MUST be disabled between the ages of 18-61 AND homeless. about to be homeless, institutionalized, or about to be institutionalized. Please read the MS5 Frequently Asked Questions and the MS5 information. If you think you qualify, please complete the Section 8 Pre-Application form and on page 2 you would mark that preference. If you already are on the wait list and think you would qualify, please call or email Jessica at our office. She will add that preference for you. At the time of full application you will have to be able to prove that you meet all the preference requirements.

We are ALWAYS accepting applications for the following properties:

  • Prairie Meadow Apartments Bldg 300– Prairie du Sac:  2 – 3 bedrooms newly renovated intended for families, however elderly, handicapped, disabled, singles, with or without children are eligible.  Tenants are responsible for the electricity, the heat, water, sewer and trash are included in rent.  Income limits do apply!  We now have 3- 3 bedroom units that have Project Based Rental Assistance attached to the unit.  Your rent would be then subsidized at 30% of your adjusted income.  Again, income limits and occupancy standards will apply for the Project based units also.
  • Prairie Meadow Apartments Bldg 100 & 200 – Prairie du Sac: Newly Renovated in 2017–  2 – 3 bedrooms intended for families, however elderly, handicapped, disabled, singles, with or without children are eligible. Tenants is responsible for the electricity, the heat, water, sewer and trash are included in rent. Income limits do apply.  We now have 5-3 bedroom units that have Project Based Rental Assistance attached to the unit.  Your rent would be then subsidized at 30% of your adjusted income.  Again, income limits and occupancy standards will apply for the Project based units also.
  • Highpointe Commons- Baraboo:  1-2 bedrooms for 55 years and older. Tenant pays the electric and heat, water, sewer and trash are included.  The Sauk County Nutrition Meal Site is at this property.  There is also a fitness room, community room, beauty salon, library, underground heated parking garage, and secured entry.  Income limits do apply.
  • Washington Square –  Prairie du Sac:  1 & 2 bedroom General Occupancy.  Tenants pay for electric, water/sewer and trash are included.  Rent is 30% of your adjusted income.  Income limits do apply.
  • River Valley Apartments – Spring Green: 1 bedroom for elderly, handicapped, or disabled persons with or without children.  Rent is 30% of your adjusted income on most units.  Tenants are responsible for electricity, water/sewer and trash are included. Income limits do apply.
  • River View Apartments – Rock Springs: 1 bedroom  for elderly, handicapped, or disabled persons with or without children.  Unit has rental assistance available being Rural Development.  Income limits do apply.
  •  Winfield Apartments – Reedsburg:  Newly Renovated in 2019-2 – 3 bedrooms intended for families, however elderly, handicapped, disabled and singles with or without children are also eligible. Tenants are responsible for the electricity, the heat, water, sewer and trash are included in rent. Income limits do apply!    We now have 6 units that have Project Based Rental Assistance attached to the unit.  Your rent would be then subsidized at 30% of your adjusted income.  Again, income limits and occupancy standards will apply for the Project based units also.
  •  Houses and duplexes in Prairie du Sac, Spring Green, and West Baraboo:  General Occupancy.  3 and 4 bedroom houses/duplex.  30% of adjusted income. Tenant pays all utilities.   Income limits do apply!
